Electrical infrastructure can create concern when substations, transformers, switchboards, main switchrooms, risers or large cable routes are located next to offices, treatment rooms, residential spaces, laboratories, communications rooms or other sensitive areas.
MTG Australia provides an engineering-led assessment pathway that uses available drawings, equipment data, site observations and calculation-based review to estimate likely electromagnetic field conditions and identify practical steps to reduce uncertainty and manage risk.
The objective is not simply to state whether an installation is acceptable. The report is structured to give the owner, project manager or operator clear advice on the likely exposure context, potential interference considerations, limitations of available information and sensible actions to de-risk the installation.
The assessment can be tailored to the available information and whether the electrical installation is live, decommissioned, partly installed or still in design.
Review of available architectural, electrical and services drawings to understand the relationship between electrical infrastructure, occupied areas and sensitive equipment locations.
Site inspection to verify the drawings against the actual installation, record equipment layouts and capture practical shielding, separation and access conditions.
Reporting that explains likely EMF exposure context, potential interference risk, assumptions, limitations and practical de-risking options.
For occupied spaces, the report can consider the likely EMF context at walls, floors, workstations or regularly occupied zones adjacent to electrical infrastructure. For equipment areas, the review can consider whether sensitive electronic, monitoring, communications, medical, audio-visual or control equipment may require additional separation, shielding or relocation consideration.
Where the substation or electrical installation is decommissioned or not yet energised, actual measurements may not be possible. In those circumstances, the assessment can still provide a useful decision-making report based on drawings, equipment layout, expected source locations, load assumptions and engineering judgement, with recommendations for later validation where appropriate.
